QUICKLY Allen is a television writer/producer – co-creator of the docu-drama series Exhibit A, writer/story editor for documentary series 72 Hours and Extreme Clergy, and writer/producer on the acclaimed drama series Traders (Global). Allen is a graduate of the University of Toronto School of Music and has written and produced musical scores for many Canadian films, television programs and plays. Allen Booth is a web developer who has designed, programmed and implemented scores of online applications – everything from a multimedia web site for scientist/broadcaster David Suzuki (sacredbalance.com), to a video news site (therealnews.com), to a sequential email application which currently markets and delivers mystery novels (emailmystery.com). IN MORE DETAIL As a writer/producer... Currently Allen is working on pre-production of the doc series Museum Secrets (History Channel). Most recently he was a story consultant on the one hour documentary Sacred Drug (Vision). Allen was writer/story editor for several episodes of the documentary series Extreme Clergy (Vision), and the true-crime series 72 Hours (CBC). Allen co-created the docudrama series Exhibit A: The Secrets of Forensic Science (Discovery and TLC). On the acclaimed drama series Traders (Global), Allen was a writer and story editor (season one) and a producer (season two). In the field of children's television, Allen was co-creative producer of the sitcom Eric’s World (TVO and several networks worldwide). Allen co-wrote several episodes of Dudley The Dragon (TVO and PBS), and the CTV Special The Biggest Little Ticket – winner of the Alliance for Children and Television Award of Excellence, and nominated for a Gemini Award. Allen has co-written several plays including The Shadowboxers (performed live and broadcast by CBC Radio), and Ho Mao and Julietta (an anti-racist rock musical). With award-winning actor Steven Bush, Allen created Life On The Line – a musical play performed to critical acclaim throughout Canada. From 1984 to 1989 Allen was co-artistic director of Mixed Company – a Toronto based theater company dedicated to developing and producing new Canadian works, including world premieres of plays by David Fennario. Television Award: Allen co-wrote the CBC Super Special Dream Weaver – winner of the Golden Rose for Best International Variety Show at the Montreux Television Festival. As a composer... Allen has composed and produced many scores for television, film, radio and stage, including East Side Showdown (CBC TV's “Witness” series), Global Raiders (BBC documentary), Our Hiroshima (Vision and NHK in Japan), Material World (CBC sitcom), The Journal (CBC News), Sanity Clause (CBC TV Movie starring Louis Del Grande), and the Governor General’s Award winning play Harlem Duet (performed in Toronto, New York, and at the Stratford Festival). Allen produced music for two short films by the late Ramiro Puerta – Crossroads and Topic of Cancer – both hits of the Toronto International Film Festival. Allen has composed two albums of songs for children: Lullabies and Playsongs, and Winterlong (lyrics by award-winning poet Robert Priest). Several of these songs became backing tracks for music videos on Sesame Street. Music Awards: Allen won a Dora Award for the rock musical Sid’s Kids. With Djanet Sears and Quammie Williams, he created original music for Africa Solo, winner of the Major Armstrong Award for Most Innovative Radio Drama. As a web developer... Allen has created websites and multimedia applications for numerous companies and organizations including The Real News, Reel Time Images, Kensington Communications, Paradigm Pictures, Soulpepper Theatre, Nortel, AOL Canada, The Last Minute Club, USC Canada, and Manzer Guitars (a renowned Canadian guitar maker). Some programming highlights: a Google Gadget (developed with Google vice-president Mark Lukovsky), an ultra-secure intranet application for a New York hedge fund research firm, and a web application that sells and delivers mystery novels via sequential email (emailmystery.com). For software maker SolvWare, Allen managed a project that created a talking email system (deployed in Europe and Australia). For EMI Canada Allen programmed the first “Enhanced CD” that EMI didn’t send to New York for programming.
